So to make amends here is a few tunes I've been diggin'
Emiliana Torrini
First up is Emiliana Torrini. Took me a while to get into this tidy track entitled "Jungle Drum" and I cannot honestly tell you whether or not it was seeing her cute little face in the film clip might have enhanced my opinion of it. But thats the business isn't it, it pays to be hot and for me, it definitely pays to have that hint of slightly broken english to her vocals too. My only criticism, once you've heard Jack Black do his "fliggigeoooreeeooos" everyone else seems below par. But from the minute she pops up and announces "HEY I'm in love" I think she had my jungle drum beating.

Ok I won't sit here and tell you I am the wikipedia when it comes to Indie. While all you cool kids were playing your little indie songs, I was playing rugby league, getting smashed by tongans pretending I was going to be somebody, much like you, except the tongans merely rolled you at the train station on your way to the UnOfficial Broken Social Scene Book Club meeting. So when I say Swan Lake is a band featuring Spencer Krug (Wolf Parade), Dan Bejar (Destroyer, New Pornographers), and Carey Mercer (Frog Eyes, Blackout Beach) you'd probably jizz in your pants right?
I couldn't give a shit who they are or were, I know about 10 songs collectively from all those other bands and no im not sorry for that. What I do know is that Swan Lake is brilliant and I like it alot.
Will this inspire me to go searching for every member's back catalogue? certainly not. But I think this enhances the street cred of this super group, in that someone who knows nothing of their past is still impressed!

Didn't know until the day that they'd be receiving support from Australias own 'The Potbelleez'. I've never seen them live and never taken a particular interest. I know who they are and what their one hit is. Started off with two DJ's basically playing through 'Dont Hold Back' before that ugly dude and skanky chick came out as well. This is unabashed pop music and it is hilarious. Unfortunately it isnt their intention. Watching the backing vocalists 'sing' is hilarious as when they dont the vocals are still there. The chick looked pretty wasted and despite the fact she'd been singing her heart out for the first song, when it came time for her to do some lead vocal in the second song she started singing and words didnt come out - her mic wasnt even up! The frontman got a guitar out at random times which was an insult because he plays it about as well as most drunk people do at backyard parties. Come to think of it, much worse than some of the people I've seen play. When he cracked out the acoustic for a reprise of 'Dont Hold Back' at the end I nearly cried but chose to laugh instead. *The Potbelleez are absolutely shit. What they were even doing on the same stage as Basement Jaxx is beyond belief and I'm sure that if any of them stayed and watched Basement Jaxx put on the show they did they might have gone home for a bath in Hydrochloric acid. I can dream anyway.* That being said they were very humble towards their hosts and I have to give them points for entertainment. Even if for me it was a laugh.
