Did anyone have the misfortune of catching the MTV Australian Video Music Awards on Wednesday night? No? Nor did i. For the unfortunate saps who won tickets or caught the show on MTV, seeing Shannon Noll win best male would have been akin to seeing Kim Jong-Il winning a sexiest man alive poll. My Victa 4-stroke in my garage has a similar tone and range to the Condoblin-bred Noll, who unfathomably edged out Kanye and fellow musical genius James Blunt (LOL) for the prize. No surprise that the coolest video ive seen in years, Mylo's 'Drop The Pressure', scored a nom for best Dance video but really was never in the running, losing to the horrendous Rouge Traders and their farcial 'Voodoo Child' video. Somehow that antipodean weirdo James Blunt (doesn't he creep you out too?) won the best song award, showing just how stupid the people that watch MTV and buy music in this country really are.
The celebrities they drag out from the US to host this charade are so precious they waltz around in oversize sun-deelies, barely submitting to the shortest of interviews and are whisked around town by an entourage that resembles the large inhabitants of Taronga Park Zoo. They frit around our great city, smoking all our weed and snorting all our cocaine whilst climbing all over our bridge and being chased by the paparazzo desperately seeking a Polaroid of B-List royalty. MTV was a cultural revolution back in 1981 at it's inception, with Madonna, Peter Gabriel and Dire Straits showing the world what can be done with the then fresh medium. Now it just acts as a submissive whore, representing the beast that is musical ignorance. The AVMA'S showed without doubt that now, MTV really does blow.
Anyway, i mentioned Mylo, so here is the ORIGINAL video for 'Drop The Pressure', so cool.
whitegirldancefloor week is over :(
No more bitches, bitches. However probabaly next week there will be more foxy ladies, but for now here are some more ladies.
Tall Poppies Myspace
Perth has been the home of lots of overhyped music lately (End Of Fashion, Little Birdy, etc etc etc), however Tall Poppies, two bob-haired lasses and unseen male drummer from that very city may be ready to break that mould. Belle and Sebastian are a cited influence of theirs which is quite obvious as they deliver sweet indie-pop delivered with a feathered touch. Slightly quirky yet so hip, these girls and dude harmonise over a rhythm section punctuated with gentle guitar licks and drum caresses.
Im surprised i haven't spoken about Annie much since wbdf began, so now is a great time. I think she is one lady that made pop no longer a dirty word. Norways hottest export since Petter Solberg, Annie makes electro-pop tunes that make you want to jump up and down like a girl who has just discovered TV Hits magazine and has bought her first Sugababes single. This video for 'Chewing Gum' is very old, 2004 i think, but i still think it is incredibly cool. Enjoy and have a good easter!!!!
