The Essex Green MySpace

This years must hear indie-folk-rock artist has to be The Essex Green. Not so folky that you want to move to the mountains and neglect such necessities such as bathing and grooming (im looking in your direction Katoomba), but folky enough to feel the organic twang of a slightly rough guitar, cutesy piano and somehow still hail from the borough of Brooklyn. Its pleasant on the ears, with subtle yet soaring choruses, and catchy little melodies.

Cansei de Ser Sexy MySpace

Cansei de Ser Sexy are the one of the latest signings to Sub Pop, who keep on signing some incredible talent (note Band Of Horses from a couple of weeks back). These foxy Brazilians make this odd brand of disco-indie pop featuring raucous sytnthesised drum loops and odd effect flourishes thrown in for fun. These South American bitches (and one dude) create tunes are made for dancing like an arthritic robot, and make me want to make love and listen to DFA. Sexy is the operative word.

Starpoint - Object Of My Desire.mp3

A bona fide 80's classic. It has receieved the trashy remix/cover treatment from daggy euro-trash producers a few times but clearly the original is still the best. A classic blend of 80's futurism and R&B, Object of My Desire is a lusty track that evokes passion from the late vocalist Renee Diggs. When she screams 'Please make love to me!', the synth-funkish chorus follows, kicking you in the legs and you submit to the groove. The Moog hypnotises you and the drum reverb quivers through your body and 1985 is all of a sudden the new summer of love.
