DFA Remixes: Chapter One

I know this record has been out for a couple of months now, however I only procured the resources to purchase it last week. Needless to say, its been playing non-stop since.

James Murphy and Tim Goldsworthy have put together a fine piece of remix electronica, taking tracks from the likes of Gorillaz, Soulwax and the Chemical Brothers and running the distinctive DFA wand over them. The boys open by grabbing the competent 'Deceptacon' by Le Tigre from a raucous synth-punk jaunt to an all out Disco-House assault on the feet of the indie kids. Former NME buzz band Radio 4 have their track ' Dance To The Underground' morphed into a subtle electro-shuffle and give 'Another Excuse' by Soulwax a slight robotic step. Current DFA hype-kids Hot Chip feature here with a slightly haunting remix of (Just Like We) Breakdown, with an obvious nod to Depeche Mode with stark sytnthesiser riffage. The real slow burner here is the DFA's remix of the Gorillaz monster hit 'Dare'. First impressions may lead you to believe this is a dancefloor fizzer, but with a funked-up bass line, subtle cowbell and fuzzy little synth blips make for a not-so obvious but fantastic remix. Easily in contention for one of my favourite albums of 2006 thus far. DFA, youv'e done it again, bring on Chapter Two out later in the year.
