Im Back!
To let out all that exam stress, and there was plenty there, I turned to this band.
I think that Chicago, Illinois' Coughs are one of the most startling yet under-appreciated bands around at the moment. They take the well-worn punk aesthetic and mix it with spazzed-up lo-fi noise to deliver a subtle-as-a-meat-axe sound..
With two drummers pushing and shoving each other, trying in vain to tear apart any semblance of rhythm and a time signature and a female lead singer clearly possessed by some kind of demonic force, chaos ensues. However its the type of chaos that I can surely live with. Other nu-punk purveyors like Be Your Own Pet (who I like very much) should tremble at the sound of this band. If only all nightmares were this good.
MP3: Coughs - Dark Powers.
Speaking of music, Air will be releasing a new album entitled 'Pocket Symphony' on the 6th March next year. Apparently some Japanese instrumentation may make its way onto the record as well as the pipes of Jarvis Cocker. Track listing and details here.
