Now not a single one of you out there that knows me can go Tigercity, Are you sen-what?. Any of you who know me personally and been around to my illustrious castle otherwise known as my Western sydney residence (which being a 2 story house is castle like for the west) will have been exposed to the instantly lovable “Are you sensation”. I spent 3 months searching Hype Machine everyday for someone to post an mp3 of “Are you sensation” and even applied for a credit card just so I could buy the E.p.
Skip past my ranting and into 2007. Tigercity have dropped “Let her go”. It goes on a different tangent to “Are you sensation” and attacks the art of love making music making love from another seedy city backstreet avenue. “Let her go” is seductive, saucy bass driven gold which has the same kind of subtle groove evident in Tigercity side project Games' track "future". It's the kind of track you see fly electro kids putting on when they want "do their lady right" and put it this way, it doesn't matter how average you are in the sack, Tigercity will do the rest.
Big thanks goes to Joel from Tigercity for being very generous and allowing you whiteboys (and girls) of
What better to compliment a track of this callibre than a video for a track of equally high quality. I awoke this morning and had to messages waiting for me. One was the excitement of the new Tigercity track which sent me into fits of gittish school girl screams ("purple drapes, all my life ive waited purple draps") and the second was a myspace message from Whiteboydancefloor's favourite yank Devon @ Pocketrocket has introduced me to something so infectiously catchy I really couldn't believe it. There is so much I could go on to say but really Devon sums it up best so check out his post here.
Such a simple tune which delivers so much joy. Kids born in the 80's, this one is for you!!!

are you sensation = decent. deserving of plaudits. dance-able and feel good
let her go = drags ass. dull and uneventful. old dodgy sounding electro and ballads dont work well unless your name is cyndi lauper. not enticing. if this song makes the wbdf top 20 of 07 i may just have to disassociate myself..
there is far more musical execution required to write a slow subtle electro groove than there is to write a dancefloor boom chik boom beat.
this song isn't intended to grab you and shake you around, it has the subtle nuance of DFA's remix of hot chip's just like we breakdown.
putting this anywhere near the lauper side of electro tends to make me think its best of we leave electro to the experts and ill leave muse to you. ;-)
to compare 'let her go' and its execution to dfa and the way they execute a remix would be wide of the mark...and i would probabaly compare this to a prince ballad more than anything as it has prince written all over it. don't worry dave it wont get anywhere near my top 20 but its not so bad, certainly has that lush feel of air supply/chicago which i do enjoy at times
btw this song ain't electro...nothing near it
"btw this song ain't electro...nothing near it"
i knew that was comming lol!
Sitting in the lounge room of Javid's palace whilst "Let Her Go" drifted from the computer room made me smile in a "wtf is he listening to?!!" kind of way. It brought back amusing musical memories. I can't take it seriously- I hear it and can't help but picture soft lighting framing the lead singer in a poorly fitted blazer, waving a flower around while an indoor breeze gently sweeps through his silky mullet. Calvin Harris sums it up perfectly- music of that vintage 80's persuasion "was [and only ever will be] acceptable at the time".
Speaking of Mr Harris, he may very well have struck gold...or oil...(whichever is the correct term for that choice of phrase) with his funky little tune. Very snappy.
Great post!
Digging the Tigercity. Saw them live two times last year in the Lower East Side. Met the lead singer and got the EP. Alla that. They're definitely a band to look out for and their getting sassier with each release it seems.
Calvin Harris: Spot on. I like that line, "I got love for you if you were born in the 80s!"
One of my friends heard it on a BBC Radio 1 dance show and passed it along to me. :)
Yeah thats right we get hugs
haha this track is great great catchy beat and fun lyrics kinda makes me wanna dance brb

Alright!!! New tigercity!!!
Sure does take a different style to "are you sensation" but good, funky music all the same.
