Tigercity are a name which should not sound unfamilair to anyone who has visited whiteboydancefloor in the last year and a bit. They always excited me, now they ignite a fire in me. The sleek pop polish of "Are you sensation" sent disco infused shockwaves through my body and on a personal note, 2006 could not offer a more enjoyable song.
After some exposure in Rolling Stone magazine, I had to concede that the pop sheen that "Are you sensation" offered would be too much for such a blood sucking magazine to resist. I thought with anticipation and trepidation of the world conquering journey that Tigercity had in front of them. I guess a Maroon 5 type infectious yet at times annoying tag would not have been all that bad, but really I'd hoped Tigercity were more than sell outs.
I was wrong and very surprised. Rather than going down the path of easily processed pop which could be played on the Top 40 and even at your little sisters birthday party, Tigercity took the musical high ground. The tracks which I have heard from "Pretend not to Love" include a slower more sensual rendition of "Are you sensation" and overall Tigercity have embraced the wonders of Bill Gillem's faultless falsetto. This my friends, is everything I wished my local discotheque played.
Many bands are the some of their influences, but Tigercity are more like an original tribute to the triumph of listening to the right sounds.
I'm so proud to say, Tigercity will conquer the world and for all the right reasons.
