Goddam. I come onto this blog for the first time in ages and.. for a second.. had thought i'd stumbled into a virtual gay-bar. I really need to stop affiliating myself and my reputation with this place.. oh wait.. I dont have a reputation...
Are you, like myself, someone who completed certification in music industry studies but who ended up working somewhere completely different doing something you really didnt anticipate instead touring the world, candying up your nose and having promiscuous sex with groupies? Well its never too late to try and get back into it, so they say.
The Big Sound 2009 Music Industry Summit and Showcase is being held in two weeks. This really IS one of those things where people from all over the industry (managers, producers, label CEO's, booking agents as well as bands themselves) are rubbing shoulders and inadvertantly touching bumcheeks because they're all standing too close to each other. Here, a Quote!:
Run across three days and nights you can meet, talk, and listen to the brightest lights in the music industry as they muse on topics from the emergence of new technology to the viability of the Australian festival circuit, and when the lights go down 50 of the country's hottest bands will showcase their music to the world in some of Brisbanes best venues.
And where are the music blogs in this? Probably in a shed out the back where they stuff in bloggers and their self-perceived antagonism of the giant money making machine that is the industry.
People you may get the chance to rub shoulders/bumcheeks with include Glen Wheatley (you know, that guy that managed Farnsey and then tried to manage Delta before her mum fired him), as well as historically significant songwriter and producer Van Dyk Parks. More famous for his work with Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys than his work with Silverchair, Parks has a career spanning DECADES of lofty heights. Theres also the usual collection of publishers, label execs and such.
If this is your thing, or it isnt but you want to get into it, then make sure you're in Brisbane between the 9-11 of September. Will we send a correspondent? Probably not. But despite this it would still no doubt be a highly informative few days with some good bands inbetween.

Hey thanks for the post..... I'm the programmer of the event and appreciate the kudos. Oh and a long time reader, first time commenter on this blog.
We've got a fair few bloggers on the speaker list as well as an entire panel devoted to blogging so come on down. Drop me a line or get on the website and apply for a media pass to check out the bands if you want to come up and join us.
Great pic of VDP by the way!
You forgot about GW's long visit to Beechworth.
Anyone who wears a pair of overalls like that is pretty damn cool in my books.
cheers for the comment stephen
