I Like Art But Science Is Confusing

It seems the new talk of Electronica town is Art vs. Science.
So after hearing their track, Parlez Vous Francais? on the J's I found myself humming the tune while looking for music in JB and subsequently purchased the EP, much to my surprise.

Now I don't really think of myself as a massive fan of electronic music, but I do own a small collection of the music that I consider interesting enough to stick on my Ipod.

Although Midnight Juggernauts are on my Ipod too and I have no idea why as their music simply makes me want to ram my head against a very hard wall. I've seen those guys twice at festival gigs and my GOD they are the most boring three people I have ever seen. I mean, why do they have to just stand there? Why can't they just do something? Anything? Their stage presence (or lack thereof) combined with that same monotonous singing tone and tempo for each song puts me to sleep. At a festival! With *Illicit substances!! That takes fucking talent.
I don't know, maybe that's their angle and why so many people like them. Sorry if you do. Well actually, no i'm not. They should get more interesting.

For God's sake men, do SOMETHING!

Mp3: Midnight Juggernauts - This New Technology

But moving right along; Art vs. Science.
The self titled EP came out earlier this month and it is quite good. They clearly know their stuff when it comes to making catchy, boppy music. From what I hear they also put on an amazing live show, although I'm yet to experience.
Unfortunately though I think once the novelty has worn off they will simply fall victim to the 'skip track' button. Already there are 2 songs on the 5 track EP that instantly get the skip treatment if they happen to make their way onto my shuffle list.

While I can understand that these guys may very well be an amazing live band, the CD version doesn't do them a lot of justice. Their non single tracks like Friend in the Field and Take Me To Your Leader just get a bit repetitive after a while. Of course that's what a lot Electronic is all about I hear you say. Well, quite frankly unless I were to be chewing my face off in some club or party somewhere, I don't think they will be getting a high rotation on my playlist.

I can see why people may like them and I'm interested to see them live. But as for home listening, I think once I'm sick of their radio songs, I won't have much time for the band. Perhaps a live show will change my mind. I think that's needed for bands like this (except of course Midnight Juggernauts who are extremely terrible live.)

But their new EP is out now and it's probably worth a listen. Or maybe even two if you feel.
