I'm Your Biggest Fan

In this post, I planned to make reference to some previous posts we've made on whiteboydancefloor regarding The Hate Game aka Vendettas and a thought came over me "man we've been doing this a while, we sure are lucky"....

Lucky? LUCKY?

It is official my misplaced feelings of grandeur have finally tipped my sanity over the edge. Somehow I have equated the highs and lows of whiteboydancefloor to that of someone who actually relies on ratings / popularity to continue broadcasting. I'm such a famed success because Blogger haven't contacted me yet and told me that my blog has been cancelled and will be replaced by Two & A Half Men reruns. Mind you, even the mention of Two & A Half Men with a little tag at the bottom will probably get more hits than anything credible I write.

Ok rambling aside, the point of my post was regarding a fantastic new band that has risen from the ashes of The Vendettas aka Hate Game. I am referring to Kids at Risk which features a definite whiteboydancefloor idol and former Hate Game frontwoman in Larissa Rate.

Now anyone who had read some of the 06-07 posts we did on The Vendettas will know that our love for Larissa probably bordered on creepy, but don't forget we are bloggers... not contestants on Keys to the VIP so we never venture outside our computer rooms. As we have aged our love is a far more mature admiration (we swear).

Moving right along, Kids at Risk is different in that it does not feature Larissa as the primary vocalist but rather featuring her on bass and backing vox. Kids at Risk have just finished recording their debut EP.

The first single “Sugar” is (pardon the pun) a sweet little number. Sugar is served with a very We’re Going To Be Friends-esque guitar melody but a far more palatable vocal that the unique sharpness to Jack White’s vocals, Sugar’s guitar and vocals compliment rather than contrast. Without going too far in trying to layer the two vocalists Sugar demonstrates some very delicate and thoughtful execution. Yunno I think that is what tastes sweetest about Sugar, that while being carefully constructed, there are never two many flavours over taking at any one time. Rather the track simmers and sizzles all the while without burning what is a finely crafted pop rock song. This accuracy in achieving a balance between the pop hook and the sweet crunch of guitar is where Kids at Risk achieve their best success.

Visit Kids at Risk @ Myspace to listen to "Sugar" and their other track "Biggest Fan".

Be sure to check out Kids at Risk will play @ Club 77 on 27th November and @ Oxford Art Factory 28th November. Check myspace for full dates and details.
