Playing Catch Up

So I'm back from Melbourne and was awesome being there to celebrate Nancy's birthday with her... she is wild.

Now I love Christmas when it brings a bit of good out in people (including myself) and I know its a rare thing when it happens. I'll share a little story with you of my time in Melbourne. Having just arrived from Sydney and checked into my hotel, I was keen to stock my apartment up with some finely chilled Wild Turkeys. Not knowing where a Bottle-O was (liquor store for our overseas friends) I thought I'll ask the friendly 7/Eleven chap for assistance, surely he has sought refreshments after a hard day of serving the inner city Melbournians. The bloke was fresh out of India and I think the poor fella spent more time working than finding grog shops, so he had no idea. Worried I would have to tire my already wiery legs searching through Melbourne's many streets, little streets and laneways for refreshment by the case, a sharpely dressed office worker who im assuming was on break in the line behind me, heard my predicament and gave me the good oil on the closest bottle shop. THAT my friend is Christmas or maybe just my encounter with a true blue Melbourne champion... Let's face it Sydney... you would of let me search in vain.

Long story short, here's a Christmas song for you...

Digits
Normally I post my feature download first... but I had to share my Melbourne story with you. Now, for my liking this track from Digits is a deadly slow burner. I think if electronic music were ever used as lullabies to seduce spies, "Sarah" would be top of the list. I can't listen to this before I go to sleep for fear of being tricked into thinking I'm Sarah, at the mercy of Digits fatal yet unassuming groove. I particularly like how the song builds at a snails pace, drawing you further in without having to use the cowbell and high hat samples to do all the leg work. Digits has released the debut album Hold it Close and you can stream the whole thing through the website.

The Bon Scotts are a band that really excite the shit out of me. Upon hearing the band name, you'd be forgiven for thinking you were going to hear some Cassonovas meets Airbourne bullshit AC/DC covers act who were sharing the stage at your local RSL with the likes of Gold Chisel & Jam Bovi. Fear not, The Bon Scotts are a sensational, joyful indie sound. There is a lot of this stuff going around but I honestly think that while The Bon Scotts definitely fit in with a particular scene, they sit higher up the food chain than many of their counterparts. As my music tastes often lie within this scene, I love em!

This is a side to Don Diablo I haven't seen before. Often passed off as nothing more than a producer of straight forward dance floor stomps... I think there is more to his work and have always appreciated his remixes over the bland run of the mill shit we are usually presented with by a lot of the more well known remixers. Rather than getting Taylor Swift and putting it a faster bass drum, Don's got some chops and I love it!

My inability to not post something from Cassian early can only be attributed to my own lacking as a human being. I wouldn't say Cassian goes out there trying to reinvent the wheel by any means, but Cassian consistently produces high quality... clearly most Sydney DJ's owe Cassian a great deal as it seems they generally choose to use his mixes rather than actually do any form of production themselves.

The first single from Cassian's debut release through Bang Gang 12 inches label entitled Friday Night single will be released digitally on 16th Dec!!!
