I'm Bringing Saxxy Back!

Ok so it wasn't hard to find a post title for this one, other contenders included Sax Man, Sax Bomb, Where You From You Saxxy Thing, I'm Too Saxxy For This Post, Saxxy Can I, Let's Talk About Sax, Do You Think I'm Saxxy, Saxual Healing AND finally Blood.Sugar.Sax.Magik.

If you look hard enough it isn’t hard to find endless examples like Mumford & Sons throwing in a bit of banjo and achieving global success as a result. However I am certain that while the banjo still lingers around in 2010, the banjo should enjoy its brief renaissance and be confined back to a sprinkle of moderately popular folk artists and country acts who no one but America cares about... I hate you Keith Urban (unrelated but relevant).

So what for 2010 then? I know you’re thinking what I’m thinking... We’ve got to bring something back from old or else you’ll run into dangerous territory where you have artists forced to be original. I hear the guitar strings snapping already.

I’m putting all pop artists on alert right now, BRING BACK THE SAXOPHONE!

If you look at the 80’s it isn’t hard to see that the saxophone proved it’s worth with some very sexy consequences. While the 80’s are definitely remembered for some unforgivable faux pas’ it is also responsible for some true popular gems and the saxophone was there all along tearing up through the entire era. Then in the early 90’s the world went all Pearl Jam & Nirvana a.k.a losing the fucking plot.
I give you key examples of where the saxophone proved it’s worth to popular music with my youtubes for my personal favourites.

George Michael – Careless Whisper

Beach Boys - Kokomo

Hall & Oates – Maneater

Rolling Stones – Brown Sugar

James Brown – Too Funky In Here

Icehouse - Electric Blue

THESE ARE JUST MY FAVS, BUT I’M MISSING PLENTY! LEAVE COMMENTS AND ADD TO THIS LIST!
