Splendour Pick #?: Last Dinosaurs

I've just got my hot little hands on Last Dinosaurs' hot little EP Back from The Dead and it is everything I wanted it to be. These chaps from Brisbane excite the hell out of me and I am absolutely chomping at the bit to see em at Splendour... chomping, dinosaurs... i know i know, classic right?

If you follow your blogs at all you would have already heard "Honolulu" which was my first introduction to them also. There is such a maturity and craftmanship in the harmonies and sublime choas in the chorus, incredibly impressive. As a whole Back from The Dead works with exceptional cohesion and undoubtedly "Honolulu" is an excellent track but for my tastes, Last Dinosaurs hit me right in the heart muscle with "Alps". It has the same idea of reserved intricate guitar work and a soaring chorus but I think it grabs you just a bit more. Indeed the soaring heights of "Alps" are perhaps not as chaotic as "Honolulu" but it is certainly more beautiful.

This is the kind of band that makes me so proud of Australian music, for any backpacker you need to chuck a few copies of this in your rucksack and fling a copy to everyone you meet, this will explain to em just how good Australian music can be! Certainly Last Dinosaurs have their critics and indeed this EP for my liking is a stepping stone for a more robust and unique vintage but I think it's padantic ex food critics looking a little too hard at the look on the bottle.

Oh yeah, that Honolulu song was on some March playlist thing I d/l'ed. Actually I think these dudes are playing at the club I'm going to on Satuday, might have to leave the comfort of the smoking room to check them out.
