Feed The Animals

So we intentionally avoid going MP3 crazy on this blog. But I've got that many awesome tracks on my desk at the moment it couldn't hurt to go against our principals from time to time. Get your snouts in the feed bag.

I'll start with some bad news... The Middle East & The Ting Tings will not be performing at Splendour in the Grass this year. The good news is that Art Vs Science & Sally Seltmann will be replacing. Slightly disappointed with the cancellations but equally as excited with the replacements. Let's face it the line up is over-crowded with amazing acts that those two cancellations are really small fish in a sea of sharks.

Delta Spirit have just released their album "History From Below" which I am in the process of reviewing. Their wikipedia site describes it as some kind of Hybrid American Soul and I really couldn't argue with that. It's easy to be overrun with punchy little indie ditties with keyboard, xylophone and co-ed vocals so Delta Spirit definitely awaken the soul. Guitar-driven and I love that.

We all Want Someone To Shout For have also compiled a brilliant list of the Best Tracks of 2010 so far. Great way to burn some mbs on a cold Monday.

Video: Young Heretics - Risk / Loss
From their previous work I was a huge Young Heretics and really still am. The haunting piano is brilliant but the introductory vocals annoy the shit out of me. What makes it more frustrating is that once you get to around the 50 second mark you are presented with a glittering chorus that ties in the piano and heartbeat drumming together fantastically. If the song wasn't from an act I love so much, I probably would have given up a minute in. Fortunately or unfortunately it was my shallowness and good looks on show in the clip that made me keep listening (watching).

MP3: Cheerleader - New Animal
Another testament that everything just seems to be better in Melbourne. It fits in with my current affection for the crunch of an tainted guitar. Once the first chorus hits "New Animal" gets underway in fine fashion. A great track from these Melbournians. They proudly announce in the song "We are a new animal" and they may just be. My kind of guitar solo as well, relevant without being over the top or 6 minutes long!

For any band cutting their teeth in the world of youtube, a clip this good is always going to serve you incredibly well. Everyone I show loves this song, but like with the other clip, personally I'm more wild about the clip than the song itself. It's certainly a good song. Still I've gotta give a rap to cinematographer Nick Matthews. Make up your own mind.

Don Diablo Madness

I really think that Don Diablo is continuing to establish a reputation as a far more respectable outfit not just another remix fiend. I don't always like the stuff I hear but he's carving out remixes that are very Don Diablo sounding.
