I don't write for Rolling Stone or Pitchfork but...

This year I've been doing a lot more phone interviews with artists. This usually makes me feel nauseous, not because they are famous but because I'm scared I'm going to do a sub-par job and in turn they will be assholes to me. Luckily so far everyone I have interviewed have been generous & reallly friendly and I do appreciate the time they take out to talk to me.

Worst case scenario would be this:

*Although hopefully I'll never be like that kid

While I'm sure it's very annoying having the same question asked over and over again while promoting your latest album/tour, I can't really promote your album/tour without asking them. People want to know the creative process and what inspires someone. The more information I gather straight from the source, the more substantial and credible the article will be. I can't really go back to my editor with an article about how you like kitty cats or something.

Whilst "studying" aka perusing the Internet, I found this clip from the band "The (Dis)Like". The Like are a bunch of hot hipster chicks, singing droll music about something or another; probably boys. I really couldn't be bothered listening to their music extensively after I saw this video.

What ungracious smarmy little brats. If you didn't get it from the video their Dads are music industry heavy weights. According to the most reliable source in the world, Wikipedia; Berg's father is former Geffen Records A&R exec/record producer Tony Berg, Froom's father is producer Mitchell Froom and Thomas' father is Pete Thomas, longtime drummer for Elvis Costello.

As I mentioned earlier it must get tiresome answering the same questions, in this instance about your fathers, but from what I can see the interviewer is just an enthusiastic music nerd who is genuinely excited about your fathers accomplishments. There was no need to be rude or condescending to the poor girl and if you were secure in your own success and your own talent you wouldn't have to be so defensive. There are better ways of getting around questions you don't want to answer them.

Obviously they harbour some issues about gaining success from their connections but really what person hasn't used their connections, now matter how big or small, to get them ahead. If you really don't want to do an interview then don't do it. No one is forcing you to sign a record contract or promote your wares. I'm not claiming to be a great interviewer, not in the slightest, but have a little bit of charm and humility. It can't hurt right? ...Right?

* The Like are supporting The Strokes. Maybe you should bring signs asking them questions about their Dads?

Every band who is ever reviewed in the joke that is RS is given 3 1/2 stars. These girls have nothing to be proud of.
