New Music: Sticky Fingers

There has been tonnes of music making my week tick over and to be honest none more so than Delta Spirit. I'd hoped to have Delta Spirit's History From Below reviewed by now but it was not to be.

Now when I get sent a track called Juicy Ones by Sticky Fingers, alarm bells ring. I conjure up visions of some Butterfingers type hip hop fusion dish that Gordon Ramsey has thrown on the floor. After a few listens, the song name and band name make glorious sense.
Once you hear how accomplished Juicy Ones is, it almost gives the name that ultimate cred tick of approval. Let's face it, Roxy Music is a pathetic name if it weren't attached to some of the finest music of all time. I guess that goes for any band name to some degree.

Juicy Ones opens with an almost hypnotic mish-mash of lead and rhythm guitar that flirts so closely to sounding out of time but in actual fact comes together well. The linchpin that turns this solid tune into a great one is the choice vocal chops of young kiwi ex-pat Dylan Frost. There is a richness to his vocals that are well beyond his years. What's more, it is so refreshing to see that not everyone got the guitar solos are the devil memo and there are a devoted (non-metal) contingent still proving solos are relevant. About a minute in as the song settles, Dylan proclaims "stay... or go" and I took it as the perfect take it or leave it statement. I took it.
