Sometimes The Blues Is A Passing Bird

Chelsea have secured 4 points from a possible 15, Australia have flopped to draw the First Ashes Test and my crocked knees will mean I sit out another week of six-a-side. Sometimes the blues is a passing bird and sometimes it's a sharp strike to the nether regions. Thankfully we haven't heard of anymore Newcastle Knights spending the off season in jail, so I should probably be a upbeat!

Kristian Matsson need not have bothered bringing out his latest EP Sometimes the Blues Is Just a Passing Bird, he was already one of my all stars for 2010 with the troubadour brilliance of Wild Hunt.

Sometimes the Blues Is Just a Passing Bird EP is mostly but not entirely an extension of everything that drew people to Wild Hunt. What sets this EP apart from being a handy glorified bonus disc for avid fans is the 2nd track "The Dreamer". Matsson momentarily abandons his acoustic guitar brand of folk in favour of the subtle crunch of a blues guitar.

Indeed the vocal is an acquired taste but his venture into something outside the persistent acoustically strummed splashes of Wild Hunt may be Matsson's biggest hint of potential horizons new. Not sure if it'll grab new audiences but it'll have the existing fans swooning just that little bit more.
