A Little Bit Fancy.

Let me start with a disclaimer: I fucking cannot stand Aussie Hip Hop. I despise it as a genre, a sub culture, a listening experience. Ok so yeah I bought The Calling and I yeah I thought "Nosebleed Section" was revolutionary. But if American politicians can go to church camps to stop having homosexual urges, I can similarly turn my back on my former gay self.

As I quickly Youtube "Testimonial Year" one last time, I must be strong, I mustn't let the infectious jazzy undertones over take reality. Aussie Hip Hop is evil. All this doesn't bode well for my listening experience of Emcee D'Opus & Roshambo's latest release Past Time.

So it turns out I genuinely like Past Time. Admittedly that's largely thanks to my fondness of Roshambo and the significant enhancement in the musical arrangements lift this album far above both the pack and their previous efforts. If anything calling it Aussie Hip Hop is either a marker for progression in the genre (I doubt it) or the fact that they've grossly undersold themselves.

Undoubtedly "Come Find Out" is the stand out for my tastes. The addition of former idol (I bet she hates that) Chanel Cole really deliver an added level of class and sophistication to the track. Putting my blue hat on, I can see that ambitious tracks like "Action Montage" will be extremely well received and demonstrate a massive progression from the mediocre "Million Dollar Bill", the themes of "pick you self up boi" will connect with the audience to perfection and the track "Addictive" typifies everything that is laughable about Aussie Hip Hop.

Any discernible fans would be best served to get into Past Time in place of anything from the Hilltop Hoods should they seek to be a fan of Aussie Hip Hop and maintain any shred of credibility.

Past Time will be released 1st April on Mercury Switch Lab via Inertia.
