Public Holiday Goodies
So I burn CDs for people like it's going out of fashion. It probably has nothing to do with having good taste but friends figure a burnt CD from Pix beats spending $20 bucks and a car trip. I'm a poor man's HMV. I would of said JB Hifi but I'm not even a poor man's JB Hifi free car parking spot.
This is what I've been listening to and really enjoying.
Vimeo: Dead Letter Chorus - Yellow House
I've always enjoyed Dead Letter Chorus but nothing about them inspired me to ramble on this little blog about it until now. "Yellow House" is just gorgeous, it's like a perfectly chilly winters day but you've positioned yourself in the warm, glowing delight of the sun and you feel the warmth over run you. This is romance in it's finest form, I just love it!

Mp3: The Faults - Lucy
It's a great track you can pick up for free off their Bandcamp. It makes me think of the days where I just wanted to rock out listening to Dallas Crane, Mojo Bluesmen and The Black Keys. Plenty of tempo changes and filthy, filthy bass. Great hook, great track and they met working in a pizza shop. As someone who met some of his best mates gratin' cheese, that made me love it even more.
Mp3: Winter Street - There We Stand
I won't say too much as I have a more comprehensive review coming on Far From The Mocking World but this is one of the finest tracks I've heard from any Aussie band all year. Really accomplished and well constructed music from chaps who've enjoyed the magical powers of drinking the water in Melbourne.
Mp3: Bon Iver - Calgary
If you're not excited about the new Bon Iver album coming out then I'm not sure what is wrong with you. "Calgary" represents a massive progression from "Skinny Love". The notion of these guys getting any better is frightening.
Youtube: Guineafowl - Little Fingers
I dig this song massively. Heard em on New Years Eve and was so drunk I thought The Paper Scissors had added a female to their band. Buying the Hello Anxiety EP was one of my finer moments to result from that night. The clip is very clever also.
Mp3: Icehouse - Can't Help Myself Rare 10" Mix
I wouldn't dare question whether you remember Icehouse. If you don't just stop reading now, go to a CD store and buy something from them. Or shoot yourself in the groin. Icehouse are one of the few popular Aussie bands from yesteryear that you can proudly show to someone from overseas and be proud to say these guys were ours. Unlike Cold Chisel... dirty gronks.
They're re-releasing their self titled album and so they've offered up this track as a little treat for the uneducated that need reminding of the tour-de-force that was / is Iva Davies... oww I mean, Icehouse.
Mp3: Captain Kickarse & The Awesomes - Doubletank
Ok they're instrumental and I normally hate that but the music is really enjoyable. I've heard a lot of great accolades about their live shows and it transfers quite nicely into recorded jams. Be interesting to know if they play the songs the same way twice.
