Eurovision Song Contest 2006

Thanks to everyone who made the launch on Saturday night so fantastic. Dj Albert and Lucretia, you guys were incredible. And to all the guests who sank all that booze, danced the night away and passed out on the dancefloor, whiteboydancefloor loves you.

The grandest most kitsch spectacular on the planet, the Eurovision Song Contest has been run and won in Athens for another year. As every year, it was a bizzare display of daggy euro-trash that displayed music's humorous underbelly. Good taste and talent were exchanged for camp dance moves and questionable song lyrics. Here were some of my favourite acts....

LT United from Lithuania were clearly the most unpopular act with the Athens crowd, but managed to score well with their bizzare 'We are the winners of Eurovision' entry in which the group, featuring around half a dozen near middle-aged men shouting at the crowd to vote for them as Eurovision champions in song, before an interlude featuring a non-descript bald guy in glasses busting out some two-stepping that would shame many hardcore kids.

The Ukranian entry Tina Karol got the crowd erm..going off with her pretty average singing, golden locks and ample assets. Very easy on the eyes, a master at shaking the tambourine and unmemorable on the ears, I really didnt care how she sounded when she looked this good. No she didn't win.

While Bosnia and Herzegovina, Russia and Sweden came close, there was only one winner. Finland's Lordi further perpetuated the sterotype of Finland being the land of theatric metal with a sounds reminiscent of Iron Maiden, Dimmu Borgir and Children of Bodom complete with monster costumes and masks that are reminiscent of those idiots from Gwar. They were the best act on the night, however for a metal band they were pretty bad. Oh well thats Eurovision for you, bring on 2007!
