The new M.I.A?

The Japanese music scene is a hidden gem. They love our crappy Aussie rock bands that go over there, yet look what they have, they have Tigarah. Inspired by the baile funk for Brazil, where she traveled to honed her craft, Tigarah delivers her grimey hip hop with a Hirojuku snarl and a counter-culture edge that equates to a pummeling assault on the dancefloor. Sound familiar? Well yeah, she does bring to mind M.I.A. and Gwen Stefani (shudders) but don't write her off as derivative, this shit is hot.

Speaking of Tigarah and Japanese music, Fat Planet, FBI 94.5's international music show featured a japanese special at the weekend with Tigarah featuring prominently, and you can go to the Fat Planet blog to view the playlist of the show and grab some hot Japanese tracks.
