Monkeys take Mercury; Field Day 2007

Wow, the Mercury Prize usually delivers the goods in awarding quality music with the accolades which mainly only eminate from nerdy bloggers and uber-hip scensters. However this year the judges have clearly dropped the ball. With superb nominations such as Hot Chip's The Warning and Guillemots' Through the Window Pane, the judges chose the piss-weak Arctic Monkeys as the 2006 winners, usurping the throne from 2005's deserving winner Antony and The Johnsons. What a disappointment, with 2006 being a brilliant musical year, surely the award could have been given to a more meritous artist. Like Hot Chip.

As a member of the WBDF posse pointed out to me this morning (thanks 'Breastfed' lol), the line up for Field Day 2007 has been announced, and the line up is nothing short of impressive. The annual New Years Day festival held in the Domain Sydney has fast become one of the most loved of the Australian festival season, so to cut a long story short: Field Day 2007.

Mylo
Martin Solvieg
Crazy Penis
Kaskade
Freestylers
The Presets
Plump DJ's
Jamie Lidell
Tom Neville
Ajax
Illya
Jamie Doom
Ugly Duckling

+ many more.

Tickets are out on the 20th September at around 100 bucks each and I suggest it will be money well spent. Where else would you want to be in Sydney on New Years Day?

VIDEO: Dead Disco - Automatic

Another blog band, more mediocrity right? Wrong! Although I admit I was a little slow in discovering Dead Disco, I still have to share my love for these 3 foxy ladies from Leeds. The single 'Automatic' has been flogged on blogs all round the web and for good reason, it is such a good song, a dense piece of effortless indie/pop/rock with a great Saam Farahmand-directed video.
