New Xiu Xiu,Music Wars
Ive been anticipating the release of a new Xiu Xiu record all year. I'm a big fan of Jamie Stewart's haunting electronica and his last two releases La Foret and Fabulous Muscles. 'Boy Soprano' taken from the newly released Xiu Xiu LP 'The Air Force', is somehow less abraisive than previous releases. It is still a tortured piece of music, Jaime Stewart's lyrics are as usual barely audible and beautifully emotive whilst the rhythm section still grates and grinds yet still manages to create something dark and beautiful. I am looking forward to getting my mits on the rest of the album because I am already very excited.
MP3: Xiu Xiu - Boy Soprano
I know I am digressing slightly, but I guess there is nothing wrong with talking about mp3 players? You've got to listen to those 'legally' downloaded mp3's on something right? Coming off the back of Apple's updated iPod range, Microsoft have unveiled more specs and photos overnight of their supposed 'iPod Killer', Zune. With a 3-inch screen, which dwarfs the latestfull size iPod incarnation's smaller 2.5 inch screen, the ability to wirelessly share data between devices (including XBOX 360), a 30gig hard drive and an FM radio tuner. No word on prices as of yet, but it will be out by Christmas so it will be interesting to see what effect Microsoft's new player has on Apple's market share.
Last night myself and Pix headed down to the opening night of club night the Knife Factory at Candy's Apartment in Kings Cross (Cheers to the Who The Bloody Hell Are They? crew for the invite). Tomorrow we will post up some pics and a little review of what we saw and heard. We haven't got the pics and crazy videos we took yet so whats good about a review with no media?
