Swimming In A Pool of Clay

Les Claypool is a man with quite a history. The frontman of seminal 90's 3-piece Primus Les brought a whole new way of playing bass to the mainstream. Mix that with an insanely kooky edge and some very talented musicianship and its a key for success. Now Primus are nothing more than a band he occasionally gets together to play festivals, and he spends his time in side projects and solo projects - Les Claypools Frog Brigade, Colonel Claypools Bucket of Bernie Brains, Oysterhead and so much more. He's done the theme songs for South Park and Robot Chicken to name a few.

Anyway the main reason I'm writing about him is I've been lucky enough to get my hands on his latest release 'Of Fungi And Foe' - and its pretty out there - but at the same time those who are familiar learn to expect nothing less of Mr. Claypool. I'll leave you with the clip for the single 'Red State Girl' - a nice little post-election dig at Sarah Palin with a very danceable groove.

The album, unfortunately, doesnt seem to be for sale here in Australia so might I recommend either ordering it or grabbing it here on Amazon

Its one of the most original releases of the year, its just a pity the guy seems hell bent on not coming to Australia anytime soon. Have a good weekend!
