I Am A Blogger, On A Mission

So many reviews to do...

Ow what to say about darling Gabrielle, the first inner turmoil is the battle between critiquing the music and the stone cold fox. Alas I am a blogger and it’s these kinds of tough tasks I must take on bravely. The rough bogan who spoke at the ARIA’s as if our ears were a Penrith toilet cubicle has had her edges smoothed out considerably so much so I think whiteboydancefloor’s godfather Chris would even take her to his annual company picnic.

I was fully prepared to tell you this release is horrific but it isn't. If you give Cilmi’s new release a chance and you’re anything like me, you’ll spend weeks trying to work out how someone goes from “Sweet About Me” to “On a Mission”. Really apart from “Let Me Know” Gabrielle goes someone totally different with this one. Without question Cilmi has an incredible, unique vocal which “Ten” proves that she can lend to many different genres, channelling the overly cheesed up synth of the 80’s border on comical and doesn’t suit Cilmi for me. I think Cilmi is an artist who I could have honestly taken far more seriously than tracks like “Robots” and “Superhot” allow me to. What’s more I just can’t believe all this I need to stand up for myself and not let guys be mean to me nonsense, I see Cilmi as the persona she portrays in the "Sweet About Me" clip that would have any man on his knees.

Embarrassing or not, I love the pure over the top pop of “On a Mission” and “Invisible Girl” they just pump me up so much that I realise I don’t deserve the treatment my boyfriend gives me and I should just dump Chris...ahhh... never mind. Honestly it just travels a little too far into Vanessa Amorosi territory for my liking because I can believe guys would screw her over all the time ( you can’t touch me now Amorosi, you’re gangland pay-day got bashed in jail). Overall I’d have to say that while the album has a definite cohesion I think it doesn’t stretch to the soaring heights Cilmi or Danger Mouse could have pushed her to and remains fairly light on.

I'd have a company picnic on her anyday.

Watch the episode she appears on of Never Mind The Buzzcocks. Mind numbing stuff.

Personality of a shoe.
