If I'm not reviewing music I like, I'm generally whinging about something; Hey Hey It's Saturday, Evermore, Coldplay, U2 Big Day Out and more specifically every single festival line up that gets announced. It's always below par and I complain that the line up doesn't warrant the price. However clearly this whinging has as much to do with my poor university student lifestyle as it does my general failings as a human being.
So believe me when I say Splendour in the Grass 2010 is the best line up I have seen in a long time, on a domestic level probably the best line up ever for my personal tastes. Judging by the bombardment of positively skewed Splendour related facebook status updates, I'm not alone. I think they may have covered everyone! Owww but if I could be exceptionally picky, I'd love a Ghostface Killah or even Doom just to give me ample oppurtunity to forget about my pale white skin for a moment.
While I appreciate my own facebook is only filled with friends who have sublime taste in music and you may not be so lucky meaning your facebook might have had lots of whingey bogans dying for powderfinger to be announced, I'm going to tell you why I love this line up so much. Now I won't waste my time telling you about The Strokes, LCD Soundsystem, Hot Chip or Mumford and Sons because if you don't know all about them I don't want to educate you on how to be good at life.
Some Of My Festival Picks
Last Dinosaurs - Fine young lads from brisbane... but don't hold that against them. They are as exciting as Cut Off Your Hands when they first burst onto the scene. Rich sounds well beyond their years, 'Honolulu' is pure heaven. http://www.myspace.com/wearelastdinosaurs
John Steel Singers - 'Rainbow Kraut' is forever stuck in my mind on repeat.
Magic Numbers - I think everyone forgot about The Magic Numbers for a while there but if you remember they make up for their mediocre appearance with the most beautifully crafted harmonies. Give it 2 minutes into their set and you'll fall in love all over again with their romantic chaos.
Yeasayer - In 'One' and 'Ambling Alp' we saw Yeasayer deliver two of the songs of the year. Overall 'Odd Blood' was just fair however their live show is something else! More people should know of their exploits and I'm sure they will after Splendour! http://www.myspace.com/yeasayer
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Ok I know their last album was very ho-hum but if you take a look at the entire back catalogue of BRMC you'll see a band of the highest pedigree. Dark and mysterious yet somehow able to effortlessly blow people away with their live shows. It's like seeing Grinspoon, it doesn't matter how average they get they are a live band that guarantees to deliver.
I'll be going through more of my favourite acts in the coming weeks but I thought I'd start off by throwing in some of the less blog-loved bands to show I'm not solely about the Grizzly Bears, Band of Horses and Passion Pits of the world.
Tickets for Splendour in the Grass go on sale 6th May and be quick because we are faced with a dangerous situation. If Big Day Out can sell out in seconds with a mediocre line up, God knows what a line up of this magnitude will produce... if you're like me, start saving!

They couldn't fail with a line up that big. I'm most impressed with the quality of the Australian acts playing, and the smaller internationals like Surfer Blood and Yeasayer.
Being so expensive and being in Queensland I am unlikely to attend, but I am excited to see a big festival that has enough variety and quality to please most.
Arghhh I want to go!!
Pixies, BRMC, Hot Chip, Passion Pit...others.
Wish it wasn't in shithole QLD though, that place stinks.
Oh and Romeo from The Magic Numbers is adorable. I walked past his dressing room once, I wanted to run in and give him a hug.
Although I was on the hunt for Ben Kweller, so that had priority.
