I sound like a grumpy old woman.

Most of you already know of my disdain for Australian music, maybe I'm just being a music snob but the majority doesn't really catch my attention. A lovely Melbourne record label recently sent me an EP and it was horrendous. It was super campy ear rape. They were nice enough to send me the EP so I might not mention the name of it for now but the press release was pretty horrid.
"What would have happened if INXS replaced Michael Hutchence with Busta Rhymes instead of some whack reality TV douche...?"Ummmmmmm, Busta Rhymes? No one likes that guy. Oh and it sounded nothing like INXS. Record labels stop trying so hard with the press releases.

Anyways, other than the consistent bad experiences I have with Australian music I am still waiting to be proven wrong. Hopefully this will come when I attend the Jagermeister Independent Music Awards presented by AIR.

There will be performances by The Amity Affliction, Cloud Control, Joe Chindamo, British India, Sally Seltmann, M-Phazes with Illy, Muph & Candice Monique, Solo and Mantra. I've pretty much ruled out Sally Seltmann as I'm not a fan of Australian female vocalists, way too cutesy. I have DEFINITELY ruled out British India after they butchered a Hot Chip song on Like a Version. I thought singers were supposed to be able to sing in tune.

FUCKING WOEFUL!

If you're around Melbourne next week, snap up a ticket and if you see me just hit me on the arm if I'm pulling contorted faces. I'm sure I'll be proven wrong though, yet again and it will reignite my love of going to see gigs 3 times a week like I used to.

The 5th Annual
JAGERMEISTER INDEPENDENT MUSIC AWARDS
The Forum Theatre, Melbourne - Friday October 1st, 2010
Doors open at 8:00pm
Tickets - $29 + BF and are available now @ http://www,ticketmaster.com.au/

Also make sure you check out AIR's website or their Twitter. I hear the general manager is an OK guy. You can spot him near the end of this Vasco Era video clip @ Splendour.

In the next coming weeks I'll prove how open minded I can be about Australian music when I start putting up Whiteboydancefloor Q&A's with mostly (unknown) Australian bands.
Oh and add me on Twitter too while you're at it. I need the warmth and affection that only a social networking site can provide. Nancy_Magoo
