Let's Battle!

Battles have once again proven how cool it is to be weird. Their new album, Gloss Drop, is the perfect cure for a bout of conventional. Fantastic collaborations dot the album (Matias Aguayo and Gary Numan most notably) which, although more digestible than Mirrored, lacks none of its shrieking pandemonium. It is such an enjoyable listen. Glass Drop gives you the impression that you have stumbled upon a band locked in a secret jam session, where all they are doing is fucking around with noise by throwing bits and pieces of sound against the wall to see what sticks. Virtually 100% of time, it sticks.

If you love your ears, but are showing them just the opposite by constantly beating them into submission with the latest Boy & Bear album (seriously, why even bother when you can listen to Fleet Foxes?), give them a little reprieve and listen to some Battles.

PS - In case you haven't seen it yet, the video for "Ice Cream" is very cool. It looks just like they sound - weird.
