SXSW Envy
I really wish i was in Austin, Tx right now, as the 20th South By South West Music Confrence is in town. So many amazing alt/indie bands, 1600 in fact over one insane weekend of gigs, trade shows and private parties hosted by indie music's literati. This year we have an amazing contingent of Australian bands flying the flag over there, such as WBDF faves The Presets(Girl and the Sea will feature on the OC next month :o), The Living End, Wolfmother and Decoder Ring. Here are some of the fresher Aussie acts making a noise at SXSW.
Clue To Kalo
These guys from Adelaide make dreamy Nu-Folk electronicised and are sure to make an impact in Austin. Clue To Kalo sonically posses what is needed to crack into the tough US market.
Dappled Cities Fly
2005 saw Dappled Cities Fly stand up and be counted in the Australian musical landscape, and after hearing their stunning brand of indie rock that shimmers and shines its not hard to see why. Watch out for them, this band are world class.
The Flairz
Ok this is weird, this band hailing from Fremantle have an average age of 12. Yeah sure they sound like deriviative of every other Australian rock guitar band and there is nothing new here, but they are 12 so its pretty impressive that they are playing SXSW at all!
Sia
Sia is a young lady making waves here in Australia and overseas. Her angelic voice coupled with serene and subtle instumentation make for a welcome change from the Missy Higgins' and Claire Bowdich's doing the rounds.
