Splendour Pick #2: Miike Snow

When you start blogging about music you are put in a very special position where good people start sending you some truly amazing music, music you wouldn't have heard otherwise or music that others don't cotton onto until months later. It is as much to do with the personal enjoyment you get from hearing great music as it is being the know-it-all heard-it-before-you guy at the discotheque.

The flipside is that you also get sent a lot of total stinkers and sadly the wading through potential brilliance that proves to be a flop means some total gems get lost amongst the masses.

Miike Snow for me personally represents my biggest failing as a blogger. I'm sure my lack of proper grammar, ridiculously spot-on opinions and politically incorrect chatter all represent other clear failings but Miike Snow beats them all. By the time I'd gotten to Miike Snow they were already on just about every blogger best of I read.

Everyone raves about the track "Animal" and I'm sure you've heard it. As the stomp of "Animal" begins you're swept into an animal-like freedom or naivety where I get confused every dance move is achievable.... even for a white boy... but Miike Snow deliver so much more. In "Silvia" and "Burial" you have some infectious, arresting slow burners that may not have the instancy of "Animal" but grab you all the same. My stand out track is hands down "Cult Logic", the Super Ninetendo inspired music is only matched by the class in the vocal and the way the chorus explodes out of the verse, makes something which is so electronic so organic and emotive at the same time. One thing I'm certain of is that their music will definitely translate live and I can only pray others are as enthusiastic as myself when watching them and an insane sing song breaks out.

Oww and as Dayve has mentioned in his previous posts about Splendour In The Grass, for an extra $3.00 you can offset your travel emissions and as most people will be traveling quite a distance and while I'm not sold on all this climate change bullshit (which I'm sure you can guess means I don't believe any of it), However I do think that lowering carbon emissions is certainly a good thing (so long as it's voluntary and cheap for the small guys like us and doesn't leave the farmers out of pocket). This ticks both the boxes.

Miike Snow's self titled album was my number 1 album of 2009!

'A horse is not a home' is my favorite track, it really makes me want to buy a race horse lol.

I saw Miike Snow at SXSW this year and I HIGHLY recommend anyone see them whilst they are here. I haven't seen an act in a long time that left me with goosebumps. A total must-see
