I miss being a kid. Part Two

Couldn't resist dropping some more good old tv show themes that make me think back to the glory days. From what i can gather, anyone enjoying cartoons from late 80's to the early 90's was blessed for choice.

I am a 1987 kid myself, loud and proud.

Anyways as always add to the list, tell me what should be there, always good to reminisce. It is thanks to the comments from Part One that i got a lot of the ideas for Part Two.

Enjoy. Tawlk amongst yourselves (yes i said Tawlk, no I'm not from NYC).

Follow the leader

Nothing overly original in my post today. I didn't feel extremely motivated to drop something unique and so here I am. I thought I'd drop a post of some tracks I'm enjoying, give you good people some downloads and champion some of my favourite posts in the process. Yes, I am a sheep.

Mp3: Glass Candy – Running down the hills

I picked this little number off Big Stereo some time ago and it has latched onto my brain like an unwanted in law. Well, ok that is a touch harsh as the advances Glass Candy have made on my brain have been more than encouraged. "Running down the hills" is like something from a lullaby of indie-tastic proportions. A really well developed sound from a class act which I suppose is obvious isn’t it? When was the last time you heard of a class act that didn’t have a well developed sound. I am stupid, but so are you, you’re reading this. I love you.

Mp3: Young & Restless – Kapow

I think Young & Restless fit in that Belles Will Ring category of Australian music which bloggers just cannot get enough of. It could be posted by another 20 blogs and I still want to sing my own praises of its quality. “Kapow” is like a gigantic leap for these guys from promising new comers to the tenacious real deal. I think Young & Restless probably have one of the world’s finest front women and a sound that is fresh whilst still not reinventing the wheel. I’m fearful of seeing “Kapow” because chaos would follow. Thanks to A-reminder for this one.

Mp3: Go! Team – Grip like vice

I really like the Go! Team without loving them. My fellow white boy Chris is more involved with them than I but none the less I think “Grip like vice” is a brilliant track. Everything you could ask for from the Go! Team and more. Die hard fans may disagree with me, but I see this track as a bit of a “Panther Dash Pt II” which is certainly a good thing. Thanks to practically half the blogs on Hype Machine.

Mp3: Kayne West – Young Folks

If you asked the Whiteboydancefloor crew last year what we thought of Kayne West. We would tell you without a second thought that he is indeed one of the God’s of hip hop (whatever category you wish to place him) and that his album “Late Registration” was a masterstroke. For me personally, I am getting really tired of this idiot. He’s gone from being a little neurotic but still outspoken and funny to a complete joke. Kayne West is getting on my nerves and his sampling of Young Folks on this track and Daft Punk on another is complete rubbish. Kayne, back to eating [food prepared by overpriced chefs] and having car accidents. Thanks to All Things Go for uncovering this one.

A Beautiful Life

Its a beautiful life apparently. Underneath our Darwinian culture where we constantly are racing to procure the most stuff, land the best job and to look the best, people are searching for something more.
One of the worlds finest techno artists, Kompakt's Gui Boratto is from Brazil, a place where peasants rub shoulders with the wealthy, where excess and deprivation collide. I have never been to Sao Paulo, the smog-ridden home of Boratto, yet being the 3rd largest city on the planet it surely would make one feel a little disconnected and isolated, with out-of-control urban sprawl and large amounts of poverty compounding the mood. However in these surroundings, Boratti creates a beautiful musical vision, colourful and uplifting. It is wonderful how he sees through the darkness and uses a synthetic musical medium to create something so emotive and human. I told you techno was back.

MP3: Gui Boratto - Beautiful Life

I caught a show recently at a local venue, featuring some relatively unknown Aussie Punk/Hardcore bands. This is a scene that seemingly gets bigger as the days tick by, and Armageddon Sky from Melbourne for me are the pick of the bunch. On record you may be forgiven for thinking they sound similar to many others competing in the same field, but you would be wrong in assuming as much. In a live setting this band comes to life with each vocal harmony sounding rich and melodic; each scream empassioned and tactful; drums and guitars that seem to run with an unstoppable heartbeat and an energetic frontman who's performance live is punctuated by random acts of speaker stack climbing. The polish of the studio mutes all this just a tad, but if you get the chance to see them live it will all make perfect sense. Their City Lights Glow EP is out now and its certainly worth a listen.

The Boys Are Back In Town

With work being plentiful and other things to do Ive found it very hard to listen to music lately. The music I like as well as even getting the chance to listen to new music, and hence I havent really had very much time or content to bring to the whiteboydancefloor. But all that has now changed.
If you were to ask most people who know me 'Whats Javid's favourite band in the world?' you'd find that most of them would say Rammstein. And for the most part they'd be right. While artists like Matisyahu and the Fratellis are people I'm right behind, I've been a fan of Rammstein for almost 10 years and my love for them remains unwavered. They've been, like many of the worlds biggest volcanoes, sitting around doing nothing, reaping the benefits of the hard work they put in during 05 and early 06 (2 albums and a massive tour) and to be honest I'd started giving up hope that they'd be back. Until I opened my email and found this:

"RAMMSTEIN are alive! After more than a year break the band has returned in good spirits – the gentlemen have started writing new songs! Unfortunately, due to the current album production, RAMMSTEIN will not play any shows this year. We are excited to find out what news there are to tell in the near future!"

And to me, this is honestly some of the best news I've ever heard. Now I think its time that I give you a breif rundown of the band. Rammstein are a sextet from Germany, and one of the worlds biggest industrial bands. Where American industrial bands (ie. NIN) took a slightly more dance-edge in the 90's, the European artists took a chunkier take on things. Unfortunately being a non-english speaking band has narrowed their market a bit but on the other hand the fact that they're internationally recognised shows that language isnt a barrier. Then again with live shows like this, who could argue:

The reason that Rammstein are able to transcend the language barrier would certainly have something to do with the absolutely amazing show that they put on, due much in part to vocalist Till Lindemann - who just happens to also be a very creative pyrotechnician. Explosions, flaming clothes, fire breathing guitarists and rubber-raft crowd surfing all make up part of the experience. But of course a grandoise show is bound to run into trouble, with the band having to cancel pyros depending on the size of the venue. Not to mention being arrested in America for simulated sodomy on stage. They've been here before, but not since 01 so it's been a long time between drinks.

But finally, for everyone like me, the wait is over and Rammstein are coming back in a flaming ball of glory. A new album, a new stage show and a return to Australia. Make sure you DO NOT miss it. If you cant understand what they're saying, just watch the pretty fire. You retard.

Last but not least, we have to say goodbye to our first whiteboy casualty of the year. This mans efforts in dance, comedy and of course world politics make him a strong running candidate for the prestigious honour of whiteboy of the year. So I ask you all to join with me in saying - vale Borris Nikolayevich Yeltsin.

May he be drunkenly dancing with all the other dead russians.

MUBA: Music Blog Awards

Vote For the 2007 Music Blog Awards @ Emusic.com

The ferocious wrath of the blogosphere continues to tighten its grip. After careful consideration, Whiteboydancefloor has decided to jump on this band wagon and take part in an exciting new endeavour. The 2007 Music Blog Awards are the first of hopefully many and in short the way it works is that bloggers from around the joint select their favourites of the year gone by and then along with these bloggers, you the blog reading faithful vote on your finest and from there obviously winners are produced. A simple concept, but you cannot deny it's all a bit of good fun. The idea has been kept afloat almost solely by the hard work of fellow blogger Jason Preston & somehow he has managed to get Emusic.com in on the idea!

With Emusic.com on board, The 2007 MUBA awards as we've come to refer to it offers you good people free downloads when you join Emusic.com. No catches, no sign up fees, free music downloads.

So if you would all be so kind as to head over and fill out the Nomination Form and select your best, sign up to Emusic.com and Whiteboydancefloor would be ever grateful. I would love to see the fine opinions of the Whiteboydancefloor faithful strongly represented.

Treats & Treasures

For anyone who thinks like me, May 31st is a complete world away. But I had to drop this early so by the time I mention it, you are not cursing me for missing out on tickets. For anyone who thinks like the Whiteboydancefloor crew, this kind of line up leaves me shaking at the knees with excitement. Cut Copy are making their return on the back of the dance floor killer "Hearts on Fire" and a new album that will encompass that DFA touch. I am tipping it to be one of the albums of 07 and seeing them live is an opportunity none of us should turn down.

I've got in early and bought my ticket already as has an exclusive group of whiteboy's finest. I you consider yourselves apart of this unique class, then prove your stripes and buy your tickets. Head over to Moshtix to get all that stuff sorted and I'll be seeing you there! Don't leave this til the last minute, with Cut Copy already selling out their more publicized tour dates, this lesser known one will be no different. Once the word is out, you'll miss out. And of course, It's at the Manning Bar AND to add the finest garnish, Ajax is there too. You don't need anything more from life.

Oww did i mention it's only 24 bux, cheaper for Sydney Uni kids!!!

I must admit, Scissors for left handers is not something I necessarily believe in. I was one of those gifted right hand students in primary school who would scoff and snicker at the left handers whilst I breezed through art & craft with ease. However, I do owe alot of my selection in first division league sides to my ability to kick with the left foot rather than any profound ability, so I suppose, I need an attitude adjustment.

If you take one look at the photo above it's plain to see, the following individuals are true blue white boys in every sense of the movement. Scissors for Lefty are another of the fine young bucks from the Eenie Meenie stable and their music is quite dashing. Presenting a higher order of unrestricted fun, Scissors for Lefty are the kind of act who will sit well with quite a broad audience and certainly they've got the right bits to be a hit with the Aussie kids. They inspire some seriously awkward whiteboy dancing, you know, the kind that has your hands in the air, flower behind the ear and pelvic thrusts a plenty. Everything I enjoy and more. Enjoyable would be the easiest way to describe Scissors for Lefty, so keep your eyes out for em in the future.

Scissors for Lefty release their cd entitled Underhanded Romance on June 12 however the Aussie release is T.B.A so if your keen, head over to the Eenie Meenie Records myspace and you'll get the downlow on how to get your hands on it.

I didnt break it, They made me do it!

Ever since my first encounter with Be Your Own Pet on this very blog, my passion for loud, raucous music has been insatiable. The irreverent use of guitar buzzing feedback attacking the excessive symbol crashes leave me energised and ready to walk into my living and smash over that ugly vase that every Mum out there holds onto as a keepsake. As I listen to this enraging music, my mind leads to pseudo-scenarios that involve dialogue like "Pffft What's a keepsake you drone" which I exclaim in triumph as I removed my cricket bat from its made in india casing and I rush toward the vase, both shattering it and anything in its immediate path out the window.

And in this moment, I am happy.

This kind of disregard for body and world is a characteristic I attribute to the crisp Sydney freshness of Lions At Your Door. Instead of going down the "rising from the ashes of" approach, we all know where these fine people come from and I see it as pointless to mention a past which is not as dynamic as the future. Lions At Your Door are precisely what the kids who got days off school for the Sydney Olympics expect, nothing less than a snarly growl & snappy delivery. I love the name in that it is quite appropriate, almost preemptive of the chaos this outfit plans to inflict on the earwaves. I cannot wait until they are vandalizing and terrorizing the awkwardly inferior overseas dance floors with some of that good Sydney ferocity! Don't waste your money going to Africa for Lions, those African pussies won't bite anywhere near as hard.

Keep your eyes peeled for Lions At Your Door!

Mp3: Lions At Your Door - Sad face
Myspace: Lions At Your Door

Continuing my love of music that inspires one to "break stuff" for want of a better quotation than Limpbizkit is trouble making yanks White Denim. While they need no extra buzzing from myself, they compliment the previously mentioned acts with distinction. The blogger buzz took hold of them late last year and with a widely championed performance at the illustrious SXSW kept the blog train rolling. It is difficult to find an enduring reason not to enjoy the loud growling noise of White Denim, while I prefer the female squeals and squawks of Be Your Own Pet's front lady, White Denim are non the less, offensively enjoyable. The kind of music that would hurt your parents ears, you know, the way it should be!

Get your mits on an endless amount of White Denim @ Hype machine.

Koop Koop

The light is failing and the day disappearing. The light from the street lamp reflecting off the cobblestone path begins to defeat the sun as the stars come out to dance. Fairy lights arch the path as lovers dine in the moonlight. I hear a swinging beat, played with a feather touch. A trumpet, trombone or even both wrap themselves around each other in a mournful yet blissful song. They are calling me to dance. But not in the way I am used to. I want to take someone by the hand, and twirl them around in the twilight to this song I am hearing. I peek around the corner and I see the band playing down an alleyway. A lady is caressing the microphone, her voice silky and deep. The nucleus of the band are two odd looking Swedish gentlemen, both wearing dresses. Too much liquor maybe? No its true, apparently I'm on a crazy place called Koop Island, and I never want to leave.

MP3: Koop - I See A Different You
MYSPACE: Koop ('Koop Island Blues' you must hear)

Remember how good Love Songs of the Hanging Gardens was when it was released in 05? Well its composer Kelley Polar has returned, and here is the video for the first single off his forthcoming 12". Fun fact: he was once expelled from the Julliard School of Music.

Let's Start A Revolution Baby

Bring back guitars I say. Shredding solos, wonderful legato riffage with no predetermined path and guitarists who tap away on the fretboard armed with that wailing tone of metal guitarists of the distant past. Bring back vocal harmonies and melodies. Then tear them apart in an instant with a roar and scream which are sharpened by precise high-hat slaps, then blunted by a pounding bass. Rip out that black metal band shirt and fly kick the air. Behind Crimson Eyes certainly have brought all of this to their craft. See this band live if you have the chance. I know you want to. I did. Emo/metalcore/whatever is here to stay. It feels really good somehow. Its Shakedown, Shakedown baby.

Soft Tigers Heart, It races

Yeah I know, cheesy post title I know. But I was down at the good old Penrith Plaza today, picking up some new cds to give a whirl and to my surprise I stumbled accross a single of "Heart it Races" by Aussie Muppet lovers Architecture in Helsinki.

Now that Pink Skull remix that is floating around all the blogs interested me about as much as the latest opinion polls concerning Kevin Rudd, but this little 5 tracker features some really neat stuff on it.

Most notably (and what I am sharing with you today) is a surprising inclusion of a cover of "Heart it races" performed by none other than Sydney darlings of the now, Soft Tigers.

I thought to myself this is quite a ballsy undertaking for any band to dare cover Architecture in Helsinki but I think Soft Tigers have gone about it exactly the right way. You're never going to be able to produce something on a grander scale than Architecture in Helsinki let alone beat them at their own game. So Soft Tigers have done the reverse and broke the song down to a simplistic little ditty of fun. I enjoy the take they've done on it and I think it really shows the diversity that Soft Tigers are capable of. Looking forward to getting my hands on 'Gospel Ambitions' soon from those boys but it's only on cassette so I'm not liking my chances.

Gang Awry: Politics

Gang awry are certainly a far cry from their "needing a new high" days, but even on their debut album Politics, there is no denying the seductive trickle of funk that still underlines their music. I have to give them credit, sticking to one genre is not a comfort that Gang Awry afford themselves. After my fateful mission down to Leading Edge Penrith to pick up a copy of Politics, I raced home to throw it in the cd player and was quite stunned, did i have the right record?

I didn't hear the russle of melodic guitar interplay, what I heard was the honeycomb crunch of distorted guitars, amped up in full. "The Jaws of life" opens the album with an almost sinister warning of what our world has become and vocalist Nick Norton is asking to be spared from the turmoil. Closely following is the early Grinspoon-esque riffage that opens "Brittle Being" and any notions of a slowly building allure or fragility to Gang Awry's sound is quickly shattered.

Fear not though funk loving brothers and sisters, Gang Awry do not desert you completely. The very west of Sydney inspired "Don't be so suburban" gives an alarmingly accurate description of what it is that makes everyone so annoyed at what I call "hills kids". Definitely a personal favourite of mine.

In the space of just 10 tracks, the amount of genre-ground that Gang Awry cover is impressive. At times the album doesn't follow any specific flow from one to the other but none the less, I think this is a tactic new bands should employ by giving the fans a real sampler of everything you have on offer and then seeing what they like the best. For me, initially I never thought I would be able to get past my love of the funk, but their ability to craft light rock balladry like "Pretty mess" has opened my ears to the variety of talents that Gang Awry possess and while it did take my conservative music opinions some time to adjust from pure punk, I've certainly got to that place now.

In comparison to their previous EP, the neigh sayers who compared them to a RATM inspired outfit will surely see a definite evolution in the unique sound that is Gang Awry. Catch Gang Awry @ The Basement, 25th May. More details on their space.

Myspace: Gang Awry (they have one of my personal favourites "Take me over yonder" available for free download)

I've been quite taken by Expatriate's "In the midst of this" and was really pleased to here the news this morning that they have scored a supporting slot with none other than the only rock band who has more fans than Eskimoe Joe, Powderfinger. The idea for the tour is almost that of a pre-tour for both acts, warming up their sets for full scale attacks later this year.

The pulse of Expatriate's music should really compliment nicely to get the crowd well and truely amped up. While Bernard Fanning's solo work has got me sick of his voice, presence, face, there is no denying that if you've seen a Powderfinger live set, they do deliver in fine style.

So good on the boys and get yourselves out there early to check em out, full tour details as always, over at their space.

What I thought was beautiful, doesn't live inside of you

Man oh man today has been an exciting day of music news! I am normally plugging away at some new band rather than ever having news to tell you guys. Well mark this day in your calendar, I have something of worth to say (debatable).

It's been a long time coming and quite frankly I've well and truly lost any interest in what Guns n Roses could come up with, until now that I actually have some music to put to the rumour spreading of song titles and demos and live clips. Thanks to MetalSucks.net we have our first definitively audible mp3's of some music coming from the infamous Chinese Democracy. I could try and rip out all the "Chinese democracy cost so much... Chinese democracy took so long" Rodney Dangerfield jokes, but instead, I'll just give you all a link to listen for yourselves.

Stream: "The Blues" - Probably my favourite track out of the bunch. I rekon if The Fray had released this song, I would be quite taken with it and there are moments where the song does sit well with me. It felt so good to hear Axel's voice again, but I feel really this is just too close to watered down pop rock. Guns n Roses were always able to walk that tightrope with alittle more growl and punch than this track demonstrates. I do like the main lyrics "what I thought was beautiful, don't live inside of you anymore".

Stream: "I.R.S" - Again, when this track wants to be soft, it's really soft. When it wants to chunk it up, it's so chumpy you could carvvvvve it. The transition between light & dark (as Paul Mercurio would say) is just way too rough. For me, Solo comes on way to early for my liking, we should be teased and baited before they rip it up.

Stream: "There was a time (TWAT)" - What is with these processed R'N'B beats and shit? The sloppyness of these riffs, irrelevant and out of place strings over Axel doing an amicable job just makes for one big mess I don't want to clean up. It's unfortunate, there are elements to this song that show promise, but it seems the end package is an over produced nightmare. Tweaking songs for too long is a curse.

Stream:
"Chinese Democracy" - This song was the result of a wild party at Axel's house in which Good Charlotte left a copy of their single "keep your hands off my girl", Bon Jovi left what's left of his testicles and a transvestite Slash impersonator agreed in a drunken state to play guitar. Too much soloing over the one half decent riff should I be living in 1994.

All links provided by MetalSucks.net. They have given the blogosphere much to discuss!

I've gotta say, I think they'll need to put Axel on suicide watch to be brutally honest. I mean I am an avid Gunners fan (not Arsenal boo they stink), But once bloggers less forgiving than myself like Pitchfork get their hands on this (probably already have) I fear the review could be more scathing than the one they afforded to Jet.

In other news just quickly, The Valentinos are playing their last ever shows together under the monicker of The Valentinos. They are preparing to record their debut LP and it seems a fresh start is what they are after. Should be quite exciting and I'm hoping they go for something edgier than Hate Game, Larissa I still adore you, but the name has gotta go. I'm thinking something along the lines of bands with angry weird names like Say Cheese & Die, Die! Die! Die!, Clap Your Hands, Say Yeah. Yunno, something that really shits me off when I have to type it.

Head over to their myspace for all the tour dates and be sure not to miss out as they'll be dropping some new fresh tracks. It's a crucial but exciting time for the band, they have the world at their feet and now they need to make that definitive stomp! Exciting!

BUT WAIT THERES MORE!

Head over to Twelve Major Chords, he has some exciting news for any true music fan aswell.

Time to play catch up

The grip of assignments has been breaking me, I say it every blog but finally I am free (for atleast 3 days). So it's time to give you all a crash course in the vast amounts of fantastic music that's been coming my way. An album review was the most inoffensive and enjoyable way to start off the week at whiteboydancefloor.

Great Northern typify everything that is glorious about indie rock at the moment. Uplifting. Dramatic. Delicate. Radiant. Trading twilight for daylight is a quite aptly named title for their latest release in that they are capable of taking you through the doldrums of darkness with adrenalin filled anticipation and smooth transition into the splendours of daylight without even missing a beat. I could not deny that Trading twilight for daylight does embody some very potent pop sensibilities but the grandiosity of the songwriting, the dare to dream big intention and the faultless execution make for a grand package. Personally, I was blown away by the sheer scope of music tone and dynamic that Great Nothern go for. There is nothing safe about the intent of this production, Great Northern are going for it and if you ask me, they're going to get there.

Trading twilight for daylight will not offend any indie kid out there, but the soaring possibilities that their chorus writing skills achieves means that it's doubtful the Great Northern will remain our little secret for long. If i had to find something that didn't sit well with me, I would have to pick on the vocals. Not that they are bad, to the contrary they are magic and in a few instances on the album, I would have loved to hear the music completely stripped back on an acoustic or slow synth pop type track which allows the vocals to reach for the heavens. For me, only "city of sleep" even comes close. In saying that, I think Great Northern have chosen to go for the whole package rather than a display of segments across the album.

Mp3: Great Northern - Home

Myspace: Great Northern

Trading twilight for daylight is out this month on Eenie Meenie Records.

I think this acoustic performance of Babies gives a good indication of what I mean by allowing their vocal talents to take centre stage.

To give you an idea of our intentions here at whiteboydancefloor, we set out to dislike, mock and hate everything and everyone that comes into contact with us. We are the radical skeptics of society that worship the work of Frederich Nietzsche and will settle for nothing less than your adoration and obedience. Of late, I realise we have been getting slightly over positive but we make no apologies. There has been an avalanche of new music which has all been deserving of our words, Great Northern are no different.

Sydney Sydney Sydney: Part 2

As always the grip of assignments seems to rule the whiteboydancefloor posting capacity, but none the less we press on with part 2 of my little I love Sydney kick.

Kahlian are a new band of sorts but an old one at the same time. Playing together before under other names, their new found direction under Kahlian seems to be bearing instant rewards. Big on the riffage and straight out fundamentally enjoyable rock n roll. What I love most is that these look like a great Australia band, none of that tight jean shit (which I personally do often adopt) but you know what I mean, fella's who've got a hard earned thurst for a big cold beer. Ya dig? I've followed closely and heard these guys develop with every new track. The kind of band who will continue to draw in new fans, cutting their teeth in pubs all over Sydney and their hometown of Newcastle. My only criticism would be for their own press purposes, they are in dyer need of a midas touch from Boudist.

Next up is a predominantly acoustic based artist who has come out of nowhere and taken pride of place in my music listening. The track that has come my way is "Tidal wave" which from what I can ascertain is an older track and from there I have used the wonders (and perils) of myspace to get more of a 411 on this fellow. His name is Steve Kopandy and his musical pedigree is both seasoned and divine. Steve Kopandy's music is at its core, heart pulling emotion yet don't mistake that for depressing. There is an undeniable joy that he evokes in his melancholy tones and it seems to leave a more than appetizing aftertaste. I'm at odds why this man isn't dominating over acoustic jokes like Josh Pyke, so I am left to put it down to the ignorance and lack of intelligence of the labor party-loving masses of Sydney.

The good news is that I know the whiteboydancefloor faithful have more tact and depth. So enjoy!

Finally, some very exciting news from the prolific folk at Sandwich club. They have announced that unlike the classic thursday night sandwiches, they will be running an Itty Bitty Music Festival. However, don't be so foolish to let anything humbling about the name fool you. Like every night run by S/Club, for prices cheaper than gifts for the mother in law, this festival is beyond good value.

For only 15 bucks, that's right 15 bux... you can enjoy an all star line up featuring Dead Letter Chorus launching their exciting new EP (worth 15 bux on their own) THEN add Brian Campeau, Jack Ladder, Walrus, Marching Room, Cuthbert & The Nightwalkers, Cloud Control and DJ's Banshee, MUM, The Claps and The SClub Collective and you've got yourself a deal almost to good to be true. But it is true and so you must go!

It's all going down @ The Loft 6pm til 3am on Saturday 19th May.

Oww baby, oww baby.

Sydney Sydney Sydney: Part 1

It's kind of ironic and convinient that without prior arrangement, Dayve & myself are both on "big up you local scene" kicks at the moment. So today I am going to be uncovering some artists for you which I think are undoubtedly under rated, good old fashioned gigging bands. None of that press trail stuff, good honest music.

Sleeping Awake are an all out assault on my ears. Forming way back in 2000, they seem to have lived out all the changing trends and remain true to the course of metal. Aside from the name being a little dubious it is none the less angry yet positively energetic, driven heavy rock. I think Sleeping Awake sum it up best themselves on their myspace: "Put simply, if your fringe is the longest part of your hair, if you think your daddy hates you, if you wear kids sized tight jeans then let me save you the trouble and avoid our gigs."

Mp3: Sleeping Awake - Everybody's Enemy
Myspace: Sleeping Awake
Next gig: Mandarin Club, 10th May

I'll be featuring his band in Part 2 (when I get my hands on an mp3) but today I'm dropping the solo project of Kahlian guitarist, Daniel Ball. A rough diamond amongst a fascinating scene of like minded talented acoustic artists. A real do it yourself, record from home artists that seems to be able to deliver infectious acoustic hooks coupled with vocal melodies that have you cursing the way in which he's gotten his songs inside your head. Such a simple honest approach to music with such feel good results.

Mp3: Daniel Ball - Gone astray

Next gig: Will be in his capacity with Kahlian

Finally. I just wanted to inform you all that my favourite acoustic darling Emma Davis has a few dates coming up in the not too distant future. Excuse the laziness but I stole them straight from her myspace. Be sure you get out there and check her out, It will be my first Emma Davis live experience and I am certainly looking forward to it.
